Meet the team: Vasudha Rao

We have eight team members from two universities for our telehealth research project, and you’ve recently met the two co-leaders. Now it’s time to meet Dr Vasudha Rao, one of the researchers from Massey University. Here are her thoughts on the telehealth research we’re doing.

“I connect with this research on both personal and professional levels.

Virtual GP consultations as a result of COVID-19 continued for a period following the lockdown and gave my family and I an opportunity to experience the convenience of audio/video GP consultations.

My elderly mom thought it was great that she did not have to travel to the other end of town. My sister did not have to take time out of her workplace to visit her GP. I thought it was great that my kids did not have to be pulled out of school for GP visits.

That said, as a researcher, I think there is a need to understand how people experienced telehealth consultations during the lockdown in order to critically evaluate what works and what doesn’t with respect to the provision of telehealth in New Zealand. I am excited to be a part of this project and eagerly look forward to what we find.”
