The People’s Vote

As part of the hackathon, we had a panel of judges declare a winner. After the hackathon the people get to vote. Here are the different groups’ ideas in reverse alphabetic order. Voting closes on Thursday 26 February 2015 so get your vote in now!

 

Here are the descriptions of what each team worked on, including the problem they attempted to solve, the solution they designed, and the team members’ names.

Team name: Talking pillbox

Talking labelsProblem: Medication adherence for visually impaired people and those with language barrier.

Solution: Talking label. Simply press the label to hear your name, drugs, and instruction from the pharmacist in the language you understand. No other equipment required!

Team members: Jovan Krstik, Nee Ker Ling.

 

Team name: Read my drugs

Read my drugs teamProblem: Poor understanding of medical labels due to bad vision, language barrier, not being able to read, etc.

Solution: A way to generate QR codes to print on medication labels at pharmacy. The patient can then scan the QR code using our app on their smart phone and will be presented with an enlarged version of the label, translated into their preferred language and with the option for the medication instructions to be read out audibly.

Team name: Lab Smart

Labsmart team 3Problem: Ensuring Type 2 Diabetes patients get the lab requisition forms and results prior to their 3-monthly GP visit to collect their medication prescription so that they can ask questions and be responsible in managing their health.

Solution: Automate the form from GP systems (validated by GP) to the patient by email in the short term and directly to the lab and notification to the patient in the long term. Similar process (long term) for: lab results, medicine prescription, referral to podiatrist.

Team name: Got Pain

Got Pain presentation 2Problem: Self-management of angina chest pain. Aim to improve empowerment, conduct remote monitoring, reduce hospital admissions.

Solution: All with binary options based on American Heart Association guidelines and algorithm.

Team name: Hunger Minder

Hunger Finder teamProblem: Global misunderstanding of the correct cues for hunger; physical hunger is not easily recognised.

Solution: HungerMinder:  A mobile phone App designed to give people the ability to recognise and be aware of hunger symptoms and to support them in their ability to make better eating decisions meal by meal.

Team members: Dianne Keip, Jenny Green, Bobbi Laing, Samuel Wong, Daniel Wong, Ray Murakami, Tanya Waisbrod, Rongxian Xu, John Bird, Natarajan Ganapathi.

Team name: Healthy me, healthy you

Healthy me healthy you team2Problem: Information mismatch between information and support people typically receive (too little, too much, wrong level) after a consultation of admission to hospital and what they want or need to self-care optimally.

Solution: A wiki-style mobile app that can tailor information and resources to needs of patient and they can choose what and when to access it. This includes a Top Tips Library where patients and providers can share through a vetted approved process their ideas and top tips for living well with a range of conditions and issues, building an interactive community of interest.

Team name: Fight the fever

Fight the fever team2Problem: Reducing occurrence of rheumatic fever by increasing compliance of secondary prophylaxis.

Solution: A mobile app, encouraging self and whanau management (Whanau Ora approach).

Team members: Alison Leversha, Alison Hugell, Anthony Hamilton, Deinika Elston, Ross Leitch, Randall Britten.
