Sometimes a venue makes all the difference to what we produce when we’re hard at work on something. The School of Population Health in St John’s, Auckland, is a great place for a hackathon. We will be using most of the main floor of the School. We’ll start in the Function Room – you’ll find it easily on Friday, 13 Feb, because you’ll see a reception desk where you’ll collect your name tag.
Once you’ve found a group to work in, there are plenty of places for you to settle down with your computer, laptop, tablet and/or other devices. As you come up the stairs from the main entrance, you’ll see how lovely spacious atrium where you can hang out in the cafe or slouch on a couch and talk, brainstorm or just sit quietly while you gather your thoughts in gaps. In the top picture you can see the cafe tables on the left.
If you’re looking for a room to work in with a g
roup, we have eight of those. Each room can fit nine people, has some power points, and a whiteboard and pens for brain storming or taking notes. You’ll find them behind and alongside the cafe. In the bottom picture you can see some breakout rooms on the right.
If the sun is shining there is a lovely courtyard for you to wander around in, work in or just blob out after a hard few hours of working on your group’s idea. It’s a great place for networking or cathing up with a mentor in quiet times when someone’s working hard on an aspect of your group’s work and you’re not needed for now.
It’s a great place to work. I know that because I work there in my day job. I look forward to seeing you there!
